Each year, billions of tax dollars are given through the welfare program to families in order to provide them financial assistance during personal economic downtime.
The question arises of whether these families use this philanthropic resource constructively or to fuel the illicit drug use that contributes to their current economic situation. The ratio of welfare recipients that are drug users is alarming high, therefore, welfare recipients should be required to undergo drug screening to receive benefits and to demonstrate employability.
The welfare system in this country places a significant burden on society. While helping people in need is a noble endevour, there is little regulation or oversight as to how the funds paid to welfare recipients are used and whether the people receiving these funds are employable.
Drug testing welfare recipients will help to make sure that these recipients are ready to enter the work force quickly and in fact are even employable. There is also the problem with the added burden of medical conditions brought on by drug abuse, the treatment of which are also covered by the working people who pay into the welfare system.
It is time that welfare recipients are held to the same standards as the people who supply their drug money.

I will have to say that I agree with you on this subject. There is nothing wrong with helping the ones in need, but they do need to be drug tested. A large number take advantage of the system. You have done a good job!
I totally agree. There are so many people who use that money for their own personal pleasures such as drugs, when the money should really be going to the kids.
I think that it would be a good idea to do random drug testing... that way no one knows when its coming and if they get caught, then they should never be allowed to receive benefits again, or a certain period of time.
They should be tested, your absolutely right, it is abused so much, and then the people who need it can't get it. It was very informative and well written. Good Job!
this would be a good thing ,but also in the same sense there are many other ways to fraud the welfare system so if they want to start drug testing they may need to start doing many othrt things to control the welfare systems

My opinion is that we should not drug test welfare recipients unless there is proof that they are abusing the money, not benefiting the kid(s), or they can work. Some welfare reciepients feel bad already for accepting money but we dont need to make them feel like drug addicts. I wouldnt worry about the drugs as much as the fraud part of it.
